Let’s be realistic, accidents happen from time to time and they can happen to any of us. Have you had a breakdown and need help on the road? Have you been in an accident and the situation calls for the arrival of emergency services? Or are you just confused about how to report a claim to your insurance company? We have written a step-by-step procedure for drivers and owners.

What to do if an accident happens?

  • Make sure no one is injured – Were you injured in the accident? Give first aid and call the emergency services on 155 or the universal number for Europe 112.
  • Call the police if – The damage exceeds CZK 100,000, the parties refuse to write a record of the accident, fail to reach an agreement or if you yourself are unable to restore the flow of traffic.
  • Notify the owner
  • Call the assistance service of UNIQA insurance company
    • The assistance hotline is available 24/7.
    • Tell them it’s a HoppyGo rental.
    • Assistance will reach you within 1-2 hours, depending on the location of the accident. If necessary, arrange for the vehicle to be towed. Always consult the owner!
  • Inform HoppyGo – You have rented a vehicle via a shared platform and it is your responsibility to inform us. Describe the accident to us. We will suspend the deductible, which is based on the type of insurance you have chosen.

A tip for drivers:

What to do if a malfunction happens or the car suffers minor damage?

In the event of a breakdown, you must distinguish whether the vehicle is drivable and you can continue your journey, or if it is immobile and you need assistance.

An immobile vehicle

  • First of all, inform the car owner of the fault.
  • Then call the breakdown assistance service where you will be entitled to have your car towed to the nearest garage.
  • Don’t forget to inform HoppyGo customer support that the vehicle has broken down.
  • Take a picture of any damage on your mobile phone and record the final mileage and fuel.

Has there been minor cosmetic damage and nothing prevents the vehicle from continuing on its journey?

  • Inform the owner of the damage as a priority, then call the HoppyGo hotline.
  • If the car is still drivable, you can continue your journey and take a photo of any damage with the owner in the app when you return the vehicle.
  • The owner will then report the claim to the insurance company UNIQA.

How do I report an insurance claim?

You can report an insurance claim via the online form on the UNIQA website (only in czech) or by calling the insurance company’s helpline.

  1. Call the UNIQA helpline.
  2. Please note that it is a HoppyGo rental and provide the policy number. You will find it in the certificate of accident insurance you received by email after confirming the loan in the app.
  3. Describe the course of the claim and provide the required documents.

Driver tip: We recommend that the owner reports the insurance claim, as they know all the details of the vehicle.

How is the insurance claim handled?

  • When a claim is reported, HoppyGo will suspend the driver’s co-payment according to the type of insurance selected (more here)
  • The insurance company will process the claim and we and the owner will be notified of the closure in a final letter which we will forward to you.
  • Based on the pay letter from the insurance company, we will pay the owner your co-payment.

What to do if an accident happens?

The driver has probably already informed you of the accident. If the driver does not know how to handle the situation, advise him or her to do the following:

  • Call the assistance service of UNIQA insurance company.
  • Inform HoppyGo.

Owner’s tip: Stay in contact with the driver in case the towing location needs to be resolved.

What to do if a malfunction or small damage happens?

  1. Is the car still drivable and can the driver continue his journey? Please take a photo of any damage in the app when the vehicle is returned to you.
  2. Call the HoppyGo hotline and inform us about the damage.
  3. We will provide you with documents for reporting the claim to the UNIQA insurance company.

Notice to owners:

Always use the services of UNIQA insurance company. If you call a towing company from your own insurance policy, HoppyGo does not guarantee assistance with the issue.

Tip for owners: report the damage immediately, preferably within a week of the vehicle being returned. Take a photo of everything, otherwise the damage cannot be acknowledged.

  • Upon notification of a claim, HoppyGo will suspend the driver’s deductible according to the type of insurance selected.
  • The insurance company will then process the claim, contact the driver regarding the accident and you will be notified of the termination with a final letter.
  • We will pay the deductible based on the payout letter from the insurance company.

Notice to owners:

Deductibles are only paid after the insurance company has issued a pay letter, although you will receive an invoice immediately after the loan is completed.

I have my own insurance, what does that mean for me?

An owner with his own accident insurance handles the entire claims process himself, with his own insurance company. Notify HoppyGo of the damage and we will suspend the driver’s deductible according to your insurance company’s contract. As soon as your pay letter arrives, the deductible will be paid.
